“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
On behalf of SJMBC, the Health Ministry meets members of the community where they are - at church. Three Health Ministry leaders hosted a Blood Pressure Check-Up event after Worship Service on Sunday, February 12, 2023. The trained lay church members fostered awareness about heart disease due to high blood pressure. The Health Ministry leaders used automatic blood pressure cuffs to screen each attendee’s systolic and diastolic readings in the Fellowship Hall. The readings were recorded on each individual’s Blood Pressure Log and given to the participant. The Health Ministry Leaders encouraged each attendee to discuss results with a healthcare physician or to establish a primary healthcare physician. Each participant received health education information brochures, pamphlets on heart health, a blood pressure log, and a brown bag fruit snack after participating in the Blood Pressure Check-Up event.
The Health Ministry continues to plan and coordinate healthy living events, seminars, and fairs, for surrounding communities, that highlight nutrition, exercise, wellness, prevention, financial, and overall mind-body-soul spirituality.
